Scott Memorial Library Fundraising
The Scott Memorial Library has several exciting renovation projects in progress or in the planning stages. In March 2013 ten small-group collaboration suites will open on the second floor of the library. Designed to support inter-professional group activities, these rooms have new computers with large wall-mounted monitors and speakers. Students will be able to use the available wireless keyboard and mouse or control the computer through their own laptops and iPads. The computers will also be equipped with software to facilitate collaboration by allowing each user to mark up images, presentations, or documents with a different color and save the work back to each person's device. Video conferencing for future courses with students at Jefferson and affiliates or partner institutions like the University of Delaware will be available in the two large corner suites.
Plans are also being developed to establish a Center for Teaching and Learning within the Scott Building. Unlike most university centers for teaching and learning, Jefferson's will be available to students as well as faculty. We recognize that our students are doing more presentations, professional conferences, and an increasing amount of publishing in the health care literature. Consultants working in the center will help faculty and students to ensure that their manuscripts meet the requirements for peer-reviewed journals. The library would also like to increase the number of quiet study spaces (both study carrels and large tables) by moving the remaining print journals, and possibly books, to compact storage in the basement.
