Jefferson Receives Landmark $110M Gift from the Sidney Kimmel Foundation

The single largest gift in Jefferson's history will benefit Jefferson Medical College, which has been renamed the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University.

Two Faculty Members Named as Holders of Rothman Institute Endowed Professorships
William J. Hozack, MD, was named the Walter H. Annenberg Professorship in Joint Replacement Surgery, and Gerald R. Williams, Jr., MD, was named the John M. Fenlin, Jr., MD, Professorship in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery.
Sidney Cohen, MD, Named First Holder of J. Edward Berk, MD, Professorship in Medicine
Berk, MD '36, earned international recognition for his contributions to the field of gastroenterology. Cohen is also a world-renowned gastroenterologist.
In honor of Mary, his late wife of 32 years, Bob Halinski established a pancreatic cancer research fund at Jefferson.

Armenian General Benevolent Union Gift Expands Program
September 2013 • A $1 million gift supports Jefferson's Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging and Treatment Center and expands clinical services for patients.
Mary Kline Classic Benefits Brain Cancer Research
June 2013 • Alex Kline, founder of the Mary Kline Classic, presents the Jefferson Foundation's Stephen Smith with a check for brain cancer research.
May 2014 • Jonah Selber directed the gift to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he has worked as an office assistant in the information systems department since 1997.

March 2013 •  Get Your Rear in Gear colon cancer walk benefits research at Jefferson. A check for $50,000 from last year's walk was presented to Jefferson in March.

Lubert Family Endows Professorship in Cardiology
October 2012 • A University trustee from 2005 through 2011, Ira Lubert became an avid supporter of Jefferson’s cardiology team after witnessing the compassionate care they provided his mother when she was ill.
Lynne and Harold Honickman Establish Professorship in Neurology
April 2014 • Rodney D. Bell, MD, professor of neurology, will be invested at a ceremony in June 2014.
Art and Gail Pasquarella Support Jefferson Transplant Institute
November 2013 • The Pasquarellas had more than one reason to support transplant services at Jefferson.
January 2014 • The $41,000 gift will enable faculty and fellows of the Institute to attend educational conferences and conduct research.
Jefferson Receives $100,000 Grant for Pancreatic Cancer Research
April 2014 • Gail Coleman's generous grant in memory of her husband Kenneth M. Bruntel has enabled two innovative studies at Jefferson.
October 2013 • The endowed professorship was made possible through generous donations from the families of Lawrence S. Smith and John R. Alchin, former co-chief financial officers of Comcast Corp.
Kenichiro Hasumi Endows Professorship in Medical Oncology
March 2013 • Takami Sato, MD, PhD, was invested as the first K. Hasumi, MD, Professor of Medical Oncology at a ceremony on March 6th, 2013.
December 2012 • The sale of of a medical fraternity chapter house in Philadelphia establishes the Paul Zimskind, MD '57, PhD Scholarship Fund and Memorial Lectureship in Urology.
May 2013 • Kathleen Squires, MD, division director for infectious diseases in the Department of Medicine, will be the first physician invested as the W. Paul and Ida H. Havens Professor.
